The Origins of Our Art Deco Treasure

A Look Back in History

Walk through our doors, and you’ll step back in time to 1929, when one of Minnesota’s favorite sons took a chance on a dream architectural project, even as the Great Depression dawned. Rufus Rand, Jr. had returned from World War I a local hero, decorated for his skill and courage as an aviator with France’s prestigious Croix de Lafayette. With notoriety, financial backing, and vision for his home city, he erected one of Minneapolis’ earliest skyscrapers, Rand Tower – an Art Deco masterpiece that would define the skyline for decades. Since its revolutionary opening, its splendor and grandeur have been the pride of the city. It remains a beloved icon – locally and nationally – as it is now included on the prestigious National Register of Historic Places. Our meticulous multi-million-dollar renovation secures its place as a living symbol of the Roaring 20s. Today, we strive to embody the spirit of innovation that inspired the construction of the building that we so treasure.

Artistic Touches That Bring the Era to Life

The pursuit of discovery and the triumph of flight that impassioned our patriarch and daring airman Rufus Rand are on display everywhere. In our lobby, admire the gorgeous Art Deco stylings at reception and on our elevator doors. At our Marquette entrance, marvel at the delicate sculpture that seems to take flight from its pedestal. Throughout, from meeting rooms and dining rooms to guest rooms and suites, artwork by local artists celebrates the joys of the era – the technical and the poetic, the literal and the abstract. Like our namesake, we encourage you to look closely, seek what you might not expect to find, and let your imagination soar, while we provide an endlessly inventive and extraordinary hotel experience.

Blondette

Nestled within a stunning glass-covered atrium boasting an outdoor terrace with firepits and Minneapolis' sole retractable roof, Blondette offers a year-round opportunity for guests to socialize under the stars. Crafted by renowned Minneapolis Chef Daniel del Prado, Blondette exudes culinary creativity, blending classic French dishes with the vibrant flavors of the Pacific Northwest.

Blondette Bar

Culinary Adventure Awaits

Introducing a variety of perspectives on the world of French cuisine and offering three one-of-a-kind culinary adventures right in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, the Rand Tower Hotel's bars and dining establishments invite guests on a culinary voyage. Starting with time-honored French bistro fare and artisanal cocktails at Bar Rufus on the ground floor, progressing to inventive, shareable cocktails and carefully selected French wines at the fifth-floor cocktail lounge, Miaou Miaou, and concluding in the airy, glass-enclosed dining space of Blondette. Here, traditional French cuisine undergoes a transformation, embracing Pacific Northwest ingredients, concepted by Minneapolis Chef of the Year, Daniel del Prado.
